The abia State Government has commenced the enforcement of land title recertification and ground rent payment. Property owners have 14 days to submit required documents or risk revocation of their land allocation or Certificate of Occupancy. Read the details .. 

The abia State Government, through the Ministry of Lands and Housing, has commenced enforcement of the mandatory recertification of all land title documents and payment of statutory land charges across the state. Property owners who fail to comply within 14 days risk losing their land allocation or Certificate of Occupancy (CofO).

According to the Honourable Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Chaka Ikenna Chukwumerije, all landowners—both in developed and undeveloped properties—must submit evidence of title document recertification, up-to-date ground rent payment, fencing permits, and approved building plans where applicable.

The enforcement applies to properties across the state, including housing estates such as IBB Phase I, Agbama, Ehimiri, Isieke, and World Bank estates in Umuahia and Aba. The Ministry also warned that unauthorized changes in land use would be scrutinized, with enforcement measures strictly implemented.

Non-compliance will be interpreted as evidence of unpaid statutory fees or violation of land allocation terms, which could lead to the withdrawal of land rights in accordance with existing laws. The Board of Internal Revenue has also affirmed that revised rates on land transactions will be enforced.

Landowners are advised to submit the required documents at the Ministry of Lands and Housing in Umuahia or the Aba Zonal Lands Office within the stipulated timeframe.
