Atiku, Obi, El-Rufai Get Call from PDP Senate Caucus, says “We’re Big Enough for Coalition”

The Senate Caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP has stated that the party remains strong and capable of leading any emerging opposition coalition aimed at challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress APC.

This position follows ongoing efforts by former Vice President and PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, to form a united opposition front ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Amid reports suggesting the proposed coalition may adopt the African Democratic Congress ADC as its platform, the PDP Senate Caucus has emphasized that the PDP is the most suitable party to anchor the alliance.

Speaking in Abuja, Senate Minority Leader and Senator representing Benue South, Abba Moro, declared that “as the biggest of all the opposition parties, the PDP umbrella is big enough to accommodate all persons desirous of coalition.” He added that “the Peoples Democratic Party, therefore, should drive the coalition if and when it becomes necessary.”

The caucus dismissed rumours of the PDP’s collapse, insisting that internal disagreements are common to all political parties. “The current conflicts in the PDP are not different from what other parties like the APC, Labour Party and NNPP are facing,” Moro stated.

This development comes amid increasing alignment among opposition figures. Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El Rufai, recently affirmed the coalition’s mission, stating that the group intends to “retire tinubu back to Lagos State in 2027.”

Despite internal challenges, the PDP senators called on party faithful to remain steadfast, expressing optimism that the party will emerge stronger and more competitive in the build-up to 2027.
