The vibrant spirit of Iri Ji Ofuji 2025 are already in full swing as Bende people, Abians and Ndi Igbo are celebrating one of the most cherished iri ji festivals. Dr. Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso (CDA), fondly called Ofuji Ndi Igbo 1, Obi Bende 1, and Ugwu Igbere Ebiri 1, has once again turned the annual new yam festival into a unifying thanksgiving of culture, education, and hope for the future.

 

Speaking with deep gratitude and excitement, Dr. Anyaso said the Iri Ji Ofuji has grown since 2022 into more than a birthday, more than a festival. He described it as a thanksgiving event, a unifying call to Ndi Abia and Ndi Igbo, and a proud display of cultural heritage.

 

This year’s iri ji ofuji celebration comes under the theme:

 

“Celebration of Two Decades of Bountiful Harvest: The Role of Education and Training in Cultivating the Next Generation of Wealth Creators.”

 

According to Dr. Anyaso, yam—central to the festival—goes beyond food. It is a symbol of knowledge, hard work, and the future of the next generation. He emphasized that the theme reflects his belief that education and training are the true seeds of wealth creation for the youth.

 

Dr. Anyaso also revealed that the 2025 edition will not be limited to Igbere. Through the #OfujiCares initiative, the festival will extend its impact across all three senatorial zones of Abia State—Abia North, Abia Central, and Abia South—as well as every ward in Bende Federal Constituency.

 

“This is not just about celebrating yam, it is about celebrating unity, compassion, and the cultural wealth that binds us together,” he said. “Together, we will plant seeds of greatness for generations to come.”

 

The Iri Ji Ofuji has, over the years, become a rallying point for Ndi Igbo at home and in the diaspora, attracting leaders, traditional rulers, and cultural enthusiasts. With this year’s expanded scope, expectations are high that the 2025 edition will further strengthen the bonds of unity and pride across Abia and beyond.

 

Dr. Anyaso concluded with a call to action:
