Abia Labour Party Alleges Illegal PVC, NIN Collection, Warns APC

The Abia State Chapter of the Labour Party has alleged that individuals acting in the name of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are illegally collecting Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) details and National Identification Numbers (NIN) from citizens across parts of the state.

In a statement issued on Monday by the Chairman of the Labour Party in Abia State, Hon. Sir Emmanuel Nwaeze Oti, noted that the activities are being carried out under the guise of party e-registration and town hall meetings, during which sensitive personal information of unsuspecting citizens is reportedly copied or photographed.

The Labour Party stressed that no political party or individual is legally authorised to demand or collect PVC or NIN details from the public, describing the practice as a violation of electoral and data protection laws.

The party cited incidents in Agbagwu, Ugwuakuma and Arochukwu Local Government Area, where a suspect, Kelechi Henry Nwafor, was arrested and handed over to the Nigeria Police.

According to the statement, the suspect allegedly confessed at the Arochukwu Divisional Police Headquarters that he was sent by Hon. Paul Ikonne and Hon. Mark Ukoh to carry out the operation.

The Labour Party further alleged that similar activities are being planned in Bende Local Government Area, warning residents to remain alert.

It advised the public to avoid unauthorised political gatherings, refuse to share PVC or NIN details with unverified persons, and report suspicious activities to security agencies.

The party insisted that political power must be pursued through lawful means, warning that it “cannot be taken through the back door.”
