Call for Enhanced Synergy Among Security Agencies as Maritime Security Workshop Ends in Abia

A one-day capacity-building workshop on maritime security and inter-agency collaboration in Abia State has concluded with a strong call for improved synergy among security agencies to effectively safeguard lives and property.

The workshop, themed “Enhancing Maximum Security and Synergy in Abia State,” was organized by the Abia State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) in collaboration with the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA). It brought together key stakeholders in the security sector to deliberate on strategies for strengthening the state’s maritime and internal security architecture.

Delivering the keynote address at the event held at the Aguiyi Ironsi Conference Centre, Umuahia, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Emmanuel Meribole represented by the Executive Secretary of SEMA, Dr. Sunny Jackson emphasized that security remains a critical pillar for sustainable development.

He commended the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, for his proactive and security-conscious leadership, noting that the administration continues to prioritize the safety of citizens and residents across the state.

According to him, the workshop was designed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills required to enhance operational efficiency in addressing contemporary security challenges.

In their goodwill messages, the representative of NIMASA, Dr. Okai Anthony, and the representative of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Udogu Chidinma, described the workshop as timely and impactful. They urged participants to maximize the opportunity to improve their service delivery.

Presentations at the workshop focused on key topics, including “Maritime Security and Synergy in Abia State,” “The Need for Effective Synergy Among Security Stakeholders,” and “Intelligence Gathering as a Panacea for Insecurity in Abia State.” Resource persons—Captain C. A. Eshue, DSP Joshua Chukwuma, and A. C. Onuegbu—highlighted the importance of investing in modern intelligence systems, effective communication channels, and coordinated operational frameworks as essential drivers of improved security outcomes.

The workshop also featured an interactive question-and-answer session, as well as the presentation of security gadgets to participants to support field operations.

Participants expressed optimism that the insights gained would significantly enhance security coordination and response mechanisms across Abia State.
