Abia Govt To Intensify Crackdown On Crime, Scrutinize Traditional Rulers

 

The Abia State Government has announced plans to step up efforts against criminal activities by closely monitoring traditional rulers suspected of harboring criminals within their communities.

The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, disclosed this in Umuahia, Wednesday, during a press briefing on the outcome of this week’s Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.

 

Prince Kanu stated that Security Operatives, acting on credible intelligence, would conduct raids in areas suspected of sheltering criminals.

The Commissioner warned that any Traditional Ruler found guilty of providing refuge or protection to criminals would face the full weight of the law, adding that the State Government remains determined to eradicate all forms of crime and insecurity in the State.

 

Very soon the State Government through the Security Agencies will start putting the search light on all the Traditional Rulers to ascertain those who harbor criminals in their domains.

When Security Agents come to their domains based on reliable information, they would carry out raids in their domains especially those who may want to provide shelters to such criminally minded elements and those found culpable would be treated as criminals”, Prince Kanu highlighted.

 

He urged Town Unions and Traditional Rulers to actively uphold their responsibilities in maintaining security and vigilance within their respective domains.

“All Town Unions, Traditional Rulers have been advised to be alive to their duties of keeping vigilance over there domains”, he said.

 

 

 

Prince Kanu who noted that a prominent business mogul and indigene of the State was kidnapped in Ukwa a few weeks ago, confirmed that Security Agencies have secured his release, while Medical Professionals have verified that he is in good health.

He reaffirmed the State Government’s commitment to ensuring the safety of all residents and called on citizens to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to the appropriate Security Agencies.
