Abia Mayor moves to restore peace to popular local market

The Mayor Umunneochi local government area, Chief Sunny Afurobi, has taken a bold step to resolve the crisis that has bedevilled the peaceful operation of the Aho Ojide market in Amuda Community to bring the popular and strategic local commercial centre back to life after over ten years.

Speaking during a meeting he held with Traditional Rulers of Amuda, Stakeholders, and Leaders of Amuda Town Development Union, in his office Chief Afurobi, expressed concern over the dispute that has stopped the market from optimally functioning and directed the Vice Chairman, Umuehihie Town Development Union, Chief Obioma Okpara, to wade into the matter with a view to coming up with a lasting solution.

To exhibit his eagerness to see the problem resolved, the council Boss further directed Chief Okpara to submit his report in the next meeting date scheduled to hold on 6th of November, 2025.

He advocated for greater synergy among the Leaders of Amuda town to foster more developments in the area, pointing out that the meeting was summoned to enable them discuss how Amuda would benefit from his administration in the area of Trade and Commerce, Agriculture, Transport, Sports, youths development, among others.

While noting that restoring the market will bring enormous benefits to the Amuda people in particular and Umunneochi at large, Chief Afurobi, also announced his plans to rebuild the Eke Isuochi Timber market for proper modernization, adding that abbatoirs will be established in the Eke Isuochi and Nneato to discourage our people from trooping to Anambra state for such purchases

He also assured that his administration will remodel the Isuochi Motor park, to help bring sanity at Ezi OkaaOmee and Nkwoagu round about where illegal loading and unloading have persisted.

while he noted that plans are on ground to bring abattoir at Eke Isuochi and Nneato to discourage our people from trooping to Anambra state to buy cow meat.

The Mayor made public that he will take a working visit to Umunneochi playground at Nkwoagu, to ascertain the true condition of the area to assist him put up modalities for rebuilding of the stadium for sports development in the council area

In his acceptance speech, Chief Okpara assured that he will consult widely for the expected results within the stipulated time and thanked the Mayor for yi ding him worthy to perform the task.

In his speech, the Traditional Ruler, Umuehihie Autonomous Community, Eze Engr. I U. Okam, whose community donated the land for Aho Ojide market, appreciated the Mayor for thinking good for thoughts and assured his peoples’ support for the return of peace at the Aho Ojide market.

Also speaking, the Traditional Ruler, Amuda Autonomous Community, Eze Okey Chukwuji, Logu 1, who commended the Mayor for taking up such a bold step to carry the people of Amuda along in his development projects and appealed that all the proposed projects for the Eke Isuochi market be executed in line with the Isuochi Master plan.

Contributing, the Traditional Ruler of Umucha Autonomous Community, Eze Wilson Egbo, who lauded the Mayor for his quality developmental blueprints, described his sports development plan as a pointer that he has the interest of the Youths of the council at heart and informed the Mayor of the existence of a Mini Stadium with a synthetic grass in his Umucha Community waiting for proper utilization.

On his part, the President General, Amuda Town Development Union, Mr Gabriel Okereke, who could not hide his joy for the noble ideas of the Mayor, affirmed their total support for the plans, revealing that Amuda Community recently constituted peace committee to handle the Aho Ojide Market issues.

Commenting, the Traditional Ruler of Umuogele Autonomous Community, Eze Edwin Madu, Ogele 2 of Umuogele, via a phone conversation, assured the Mayor of his support and that of Umuogele people, stating that he is at the forefront of any development agenda for Amuda.

Chief Okpara while accepting the responsibility from the Mayor, assured to take the message home and will consult widely for better results within the stipulated one month period.
