Abia State Governor’s Secondary School Unity Games Holds Its 2nd Edition in May – Nwaobilor

The Abia State Governor’s  Secondary School Unity Games (ASGSSUG) 2025 will commence in May, to consolidate on the gains of the maiden edition which is to develop young talents.

The Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Sir Nwadinma Nwaobilo Ananaba, stated this at the indoor hall of the Umuahia Township Stadium during a meeting with the members of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) from the 17 LGAs recently inaugurated.

Nwaobilo announced that the LGAs Governor’s Secondary School Games will hold on 12th to 14th May at all the LGA headquarters while the state finals will hold at Umuahia Township stadium in June 2025.

The Commissioner who doubles as Chairman of the Central Organizing Committee for the 2nd Abia State Governor’s Secondary School Unity Games (ASGSSUG) directed members of the LOC to work in peace and unity and avoid in-house fighting and respect the roles of sports administrators at the LGAs and support them to succeed.

Sir Nwaobilor pointed out that the competition is aimed at developing talents amongst Secondary School students and expressed optimism that the Governor would give timely approval for the project budget.

He commended the various Chairmen and their members, for carrying their activities effectively as to achieve the goals of the Governor Alex Otiti’s  forthcoming Secondary School Unity Games

In his Speech, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Chief Cyril Nwigwe said the purpose of sports is to develop the mental health, create room for peace and unity and achieve economic and social status.

Earlier, the Director of Sports, comrade Obioma George, commended the committee members for their efforts during the first edition which he said yielded a wonderful results that raised an athlete,bVitalist Eze,  that won 3 Gold medals in weightlifting at the recently held National Youth Games in Delta State.

George said it is on the basis of that, that the 2nd edition is being planned, and expressed the hope that the lapses noticed at the previous edition would not repeat.

He urged the committee to work in synergy with the LGA Sports Secretaries to fuster peace and unity in order to discover hidden talents.

On the issue of clash and conflict of roles between the LGA Sports Secretaries and the HOD Socials at the LGA, the Director of Sports reminded all HOD Socials that the only officer in charge of sports at the LGAs is the Sports Secretaries, urging all to support them to succeed.

He directed them to work within the boundaries of their work for peace and unity which will usher in the much needed progress in sports development at the LGAs.

In their separate contributions, the Education Secretary, Isiala Ngwa North, Dr Barr Charles Chigbu, Education Secretary Ikwuano, Dr Paul Ifeanyi Udensi and Education Secretary Osisioma Ngwa, Lady N O Nwagba , thanked Governor Alex Otti and the Central Organizing Committee (COC) for the opportunity to serve.

They appealed for from the Sports Secretary to work with them to achieve their aim.
