AUTHORITIES APPREHEND FAKE NURSE: SUSPECT CAUGHT WITH COUNTERFEIT NMCN CERTIFICATE, NOW BEING HELD BY POLICE

A woman posing as a Registered Nurse (RN) with a fake Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) certificate has been exposed and arrested by the police in Rivers State.

The NANNM Rivers State Council uncovered the fraud after Sunday Augusta, from Oruk Anam LGA, Akwa Ibom State, attempted to gain admission into a postbasic midwifery program at the Rivers State College of Nursing, Emekuku.

She claimed she was “trained” in a hospital in Aba, Abia State, and awarded the certificate by a mysterious man after just two years.

Her certificate was riddled with glaring errors, and her name was missing from NMCN’s official records.

Now in police custody, she faces charges of impersonation, forgery, and fraud as investigations unfold.

This alarming case has raised serious concerns about how many more fake nurses may be working undetected in Nigeria’s healthcare system. The Nursing and Midwifery Committee and key stakeholders have been alerted for further action.
