Abia state government say passengers using the state owned green shuttle buses would enjoy 50 percent reduction in the price of the fare .
Stating this yesterday , the Hon. Commissioner for Information In the state Prince Okey Kanu while addressing the press on the outcome of the week’s Executive Council meeting on Monday the 9th of March 2026 said from 1st day of March 2026 the new Abia Green Shuttle buses shall go commercial but with subsidized fare of 50 percent .
According to the Commissioner
The subsidy applies to all inter- and intra-city routes currently being operated under the bus service and E_Ticket scheme.
The transition he said marks a critical step towards ensuring the long-term sustainability and operational efficiency of the scheme.
He said to help commuters use the E Ticket , ABSSIN enumerators have been posted to various bus Stops and designated areas in Aba and Umuahia to help register commuters for the E _ ticketing stating that the transport system in the state is still a new innovation undergoing
gradual transformation.
The Commissioner disclosed that the state government would soon launch the 3rd phase of her technology based youths Empowerment Program known as Tech Rise Cohort 3 which is capacity building in digital technology ..
He informed that a portal would soon be opened for interested participants to register, while the date and necessary details would be made available in due course, adding that, so far about 1,350 Youths have been trained under the Cohorts 1 and 2 of the Abia Techrise programme.
On road infrastructure, the Commissioner disclosed that the 22.5 kilometres of the third and final stretch of the Uzuakoli -Akara – Ohafia road has been completed while contract, work is ongoing in 31 locations across the state.
He noted that direct labour work is ongoing in 49 locations across the state, noting that one of the roads have been completed, while four new projects have been added to the maintenance basket of the Ministry of Works.

1 kilometre Okporoenyi-Isiegbu Road in Bende LGA , a 4.71 kilometre Akara-Ovim Road, Isuikwuato LGA. Among two others .
