Deputy Governor Emetu Inspects Remodeled Ogbo Primary School, Extends Assessment to City Primary School

The Deputy Governor of Abia State, Engr  Ikechukwu Emetu, FNSE, on Monday, March 2, 2026, led a high-level inspection of the newly remodeled Ogbo Primary School in Ubakala, Umuahia South Local Government Area, as part of the state government’s ongoing Smart School upgrade drive.

The visit underscores the administration’s commitment to transforming public primary education through modern, technology-driven infrastructure that supports quality teaching and learning.

At Ogbo Primary School, the Deputy Governor was received by Mrs. Orieji Emele, Managing Director of Blue Giraffe, the firm responsible for executing the remodeling project. She conducted a comprehensive tour of the facility, highlighting the school’s transition into a modern learning environment built to meet 21st-century standards.

The remodeled school is structured to accommodate 300 primary school pupils and 90 nursery school pupils, with additional capacity for future expansion. Facilities inspected during the visit include:

•10 well-ventilated primary classrooms

•3 nursery classrooms

•3 overflow classrooms

•A sick bay

•A fully air-conditioned ICT laboratory equipped with 30 all-in-one computer systems and a dedicated server room

•A staff office

•A library/resource centre

•A centralized security and CCTV monitoring room

•16 convenience rooms for pupils and staff

The delegation also reviewed the school’s integrated safety features, including clearly marked fire exits, an emergency evacuation plan with a designated muster point, and an on-site fire hydrant system. The expansive playground, fitted with modern recreational facilities, was also inspected, reflecting the administration’s emphasis on holistic child development.

Commending the quality of execution and attention to detail, the Deputy Governor described the project as a tangible demonstration of government’s resolve to create enabling environments that foster academic excellence, creativity, and innovation.

Following the inspection at Ogbo Primary School, the Deputy Governor proceeded to City Primary School, School Road, Umuahia, in Umuahia North Local Government Area, for an on-the-spot assessment.

The school is among those earmarked for upgrade into Smart Schools under the state’s education transformation agenda. The visit provided an opportunity to evaluate existing infrastructure, identify priority areas for intervention, and define the scope of modernization required to meet smart learning standards.

According to the Deputy Governor, the state government remains deliberate and results-driven in its approach, ensuring that investments in education translate into measurable improvements in teaching outcomes and student performance.

Upon full commissioning, Ogbo Primary School is expected to serve as a model Smart School, further strengthening Abia State’s position as a leader in public education infrastructure innovation in Nigeria.

The Deputy Governor was accompanied by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Emmanuel Meribole; the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Pastor Caleb Ajagba; and the Director of the Project Investment Bureau, Mr. Onyinye Nwosu.
