In a dramatic political development that is already sending ripples across Abia’s political landscape, Chief Ralph Egbu, a respected elder statesman, technocrat, and former Secretary to the State Government (SSG) under Senator Orji Uzor Kalu’s administration, has formally declared his endorsement of Governor Alex Otti for a second term in 2027.

Speaking during a special interview on Rapid FM Umuahia on Monday, June 2, 2025, Ralph Egbu announced that he would shelve his own governorship ambition and throw his full support behind Governor Otti, describing the governor’s performance in two years as “transformational, honest, and worthy of continuation.”

“When someone does what you intended to do, support him. Politics isn’t business, it is service – and that’s the way I see it,” Ralph declared passionately.

Fresh from days of political consultations with his people in Umuiku village, Asa land, Ukwa West LGA, Ralph Egbu came into the studio with renewed conviction. After listening to Governor Otti’s own reflections where the governor said, “We are not yet where we should be, but we are not where we were before,” he responded with candor:

“That statement is not politics; it is a statement of fact and truth. Governor Otti has done enough in two years to merit a second term. His sound bites are rich in quality and vision. He is rebuilding Abia with clear passion and results.”

Egbu praised the Otti-led administration for its massive infrastructural renewal, particularly in road construction, education, sanitation, civil service reforms, and pension payments. He noted the revival of the state secretariat, the prompt payment of salaries, the re-introduction of merit-based promotions, and upcoming landmark projects like the Abia Airport and modern stadium.

“Yes, there are a few mistakes, but those are mistakes of the head, not the heart. With good counsel from experienced statesmen like myself, they can be corrected quickly,” he assured.

Ralph Egbu said that his decision to step aside and support Governor Otti was divinely inspired. He warned against the danger of allowing negative forces to resurface in Abia politics.

“Evil comes like a storm when good men, always in the majority, stay and do nothing. I now line my full support behind Governor Otti, and I call on all lovers of Ralph Egbu to do the same without delay.”

In a rallying call to Abians and Ndigbo, he added:

“We owe it to ourselves and future generations to build a productive and habitable Abia State. Otti is already on that path. He deserves our support to complete the mission.”
