Gov Bago Commissions 20 Primary Healthcare Centres In Niger State

 

 In a significant stride towards improving healthcare delivery in Niger State, Governor Umaru Bago has commissioned 20 newly constructed level 2 primary healthcare centres across 16 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state.

The commissioning ceremony was held in Minna, the state capital.

Speaking during the event, Governor Bago described the project as a major milestone in his administration’s agenda to transform the Health sector and bring quality healthcare closer to rural and underserved communities.

Bago disclosed that the 20 facilities form part of the first phase of a broader plan to establish 100 Level 2 primary healthcare centres across the state.

 

According to the governor, an additional 40 centres will be constructed in the coming months to expand the coverage and accessibility of healthcare services. He assured the public that the initiative is financially sustainable, citing the substantial funds available in the state’s Healthcare Development Fund.

 

 

To ensure efficient operation and maintenance of the facilities, Governor Bago also announced a monthly award of N5 million to any centre that demonstrates exemplary maintenance culture and delivers customer-friendly services.

 

He emphasized that the initiative aims to promote healthy competition and high standards among healthcare providers.

The Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Muyi Aina, lauded the initiative, describing it as a landmark achievement and a model for other states to emulate. He noted that the quality and scope of the centres set a new benchmark for Level 2 primary healthcare services in Nigeria.

 

Also speaking at the event, the General Manager of the Community and Social Development Agency (CSDA), Aisha Abdulkadir, highlighted the significance of collaboration in achieving development goals. She commended Governor Bago’s vision and appreciated the efforts of all stakeholders involved in the execution of the project.

In a touching tribute, Aisha revealed that the family of late Senator Idris Kuta—after whom one of the facilities was named—has pledged to sponsor 100 indigent members of the community under the Niger State Health Contributory Scheme (NiCARE), further enhancing access to healthcare for vulnerable residents.

The Commissioner for Primary Healthcare, Ibrahim Dangana, praised the Governor’s unwavering commitment to healthcare reform. He called on stakeholders and community members to take ownership of the facilities and ensure their proper use and maintenance for long-term sustainability.

With this bold move, the Bago-led administration continues to underscore its commitment to prioritizing Health and human development as fundamental pillars of governance in Niger State.
