Gov Otti Reaffirms Commitment To Good Governance, Reviews Two Years of Transformative Leadership In Abia

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has emphasized that his administration is focused on bequeathing a lasting legacy of good governance, discipline, and economic prudence to future generations.

Speaking during the Grand finale of events marking the second anniversary of his administration held at the Umuahia Township Stadium, Governor Otti said, that his administration is being deliberate in every policy decision to ensure sustainable development across the state.

The Governor highlighted that the administration came into office with a clear understanding of the economy and a vision to drive responsible and responsive leadership.

“If there is nothing we are bequeathing to the next generation, it is good governance, doing things right, trying to be disciplined even as a government.

“We are very deliberate in what we do. We came in with a full understanding of the economy, and today, everything we do is geared towards resetting the foundation for inclusive growth.

“We are not here for business as usual. We came to work, and by the grace of God, we will leave Abia State far better than we met it”, he said.

The Governor who used the occasion to give a scorecard of his two-year in office, highlighted key interventions across various sectors, including prompt salary and pension payments, civil service reforms, educational transformation, healthcare system upgrade, security restoration, and infrastructural renewal.

He noted that upon his assumption of office, the State was burdened by unpaid salaries and pensions, noting that within 24 months, his administration has spent over ₦40 billion to offset arrears of salaries and pensions owed civil servants and pensioners.

“I’m glad to report to you today that as we speak, I’m not sure we are owing anybody. By the 28th of every month, their salaries will be resident in their accounts.

“All our pensioners receive 100% of their pensions monthly. We had to stop the practice of paying partial pensions”, Governor Otti said.

The Governor also pointed out efforts by his Government to modernize the State bureaucracy and added that the State is currently digitalizing operations in the civil service to eliminate outdated paper-based processes.

He disclosed that the present administration signed a landmark agreement with MTN to ensure statewide network coverage by December 31, 2025.

Governor Otti disclosed that several roads across Umuahia, Aba, and other parts of the state are now ready for commissioning, starting from June 1.

The Governor thanked God for sustaining his administration since its inauguration on May 29, 2023, and emphasized that “without God, nothing could have worked. So we return all the glory and adoration to Him”.

He also appreciated Abians for their massive support before, during, and after the 2023 election, noting that he would not take their continued support for granted.

Speaking on behalf of members of the National Assembly, the Senator representing Abia South Senatorial District, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, endorsed the motion by the Members of the state House of Assembly, that Governor Alex Otti has redefined governance in the State and is deserving of a second term in office and urged Abians to rally behind the new Abia project.

Also, the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa, on behalf of the legislative arm, affirmed that there is no element of deceit in Governor Otti’s administration and assured that members of the 8th Assembly will continue to provide the necessary legislative support to ensure greater dividends of democracy for the people of Abia.
