May Day: I cleared arrears of pensions and gratuities to make life better for people – Gov Nwifuru
The leaderships of the Nigerian Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress in Ebonyi State chapter, have decried the level of hardship ravaging the country today.
Speaking at the Abakaliki township stadium at the 2025 Workers’ Day celebrations, the Ebonyi State chairman of the NLC, Prof Ogugwua Egwu and his TUC Counterpart, Chidi ogidi expressed frustration on the high inflation and it effects on running the household and renting affordable houses.
They described this year’s theme, “Reclaiming the civic space in the midst of economic hardship” as a stark reminder of the prevailing harsh economic realties faced by workers’ in the civic space.
While calling for instant action from the government, the labour in Ebonyi however commended the Ebonyi State Governor, Rt Hon Francis Nwifuru for rewriting the narrative of Workers’ in the State within his two years in office.
In his speech, Governor Francis Nwifuru reminded the Workers of the multifaceted challenges confronting the State and the urgent need to address.
He, however, assured that his administration will address the challenges enumerated by the State leadership of the workers in improving the welfare of the people.
According to him, it was in line with this philosophy that his administration decided to clear backlog of pension arrears and gratuities.
