In what many have described as a powerful endorsement, the 2023 Labour Party Presidential Candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has lauded the transformational leadership of Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, describing his two years in office as a visible testament to purposeful governance.
Speaking at a Special Anniversary Sabbath Service held at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Aguiyi Ironsi Layout, Umuahia, Obi stated that Otti’s achievements speak loudly without the aid of propaganda or radio jingles. “Everybody is seeing it in Abia. You don’t need to tune to the radio. You don’t need people to tell you—there’s a difference. That’s what we’re celebrating today,” he said.
Obi emphasized that contrary to common political narratives about needing eight or more years to effect real change, Otti has demonstrated that just two years of honest leadership is enough to make visible impact. He called on Abians to remain prayerful and supportive of their governor, urging Nigerians at large to pray for their leaders to use public funds for public good.
“We’re just trustees. It’s not our money. Like it’s happening in Abia, we want it to happen everywhere in Nigeria,” Obi stressed.
The former Anambra State Governor, who reiterated that he is not desperate to be president, said his only desperation is to see Nigeria work through visionary and selfless leadership.
In his response, Governor Alex Otti credited all achievements of his government to God, citing 1 Corinthians 3:6-7 to acknowledge divine grace as the backbone of the administration’s success. “We have worked hard, but nothing would come out of it without God giving the increase,” Otti said. He thanked his team across the executive, legislative, and judicial arms for their unwavering support and collaboration in building the new Abia.
The governor also expressed gratitude to Peter Obi for consistently identifying with his administration, and to the Church for sustaining the government in prayers.
In his sermon titled “At The Fullness of Time,” Pastor Enyinnaya K. Uguru, former President of the Abia North Conference of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, noted that Governor Otti’s emergence in 2023 after years of failed attempts proves that divine timing is perfect. The pastor, while commending Otti’s performance, said he stopped listening to government-owned media because of lies but has seen credible evidence of Otti’s success.
“You are doing well, I am saying it because I have evidence,” Pastor Uguru declared boldly.
The Sabbath service, themed “Two Years of Transformation: Sustaining the Momentum,” featured special prayers for the governor, his cabinet, and the continued peace and prosperity of Abia State. It was graced by top government officials, political stakeholders, and respected members of the clergy.
