Police Recruitment Screening Continues in Abia, 322 Applicants Screened in First Week

The ongoing 2026 Physical and Credential Screening Exercise for police recruitment in Abia State has recorded steady progress, with a total of 322 applicants screened in the first week.
The screening exercise, which began on March 9, 2026, is being held at the Police Officers’ Mess, opposite Damgrete Hotel on Factory Road, Umuahia. The exercise is scheduled to run daily until April 18, 2026.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Abia State Command, DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, applicants who missed their originally scheduled screening dates are still being accommodated. Their names, the statement noted, have been integrated into subsequent screening dates to ensure that no eligible candidate is left out.

A breakdown of applicants screened during the first week shows that 56 candidates were screened on Monday, March 9; 46 on Tuesday, March 10; 64 on Wednesday, March 11; 55 on Thursday, March 12; 52 on Friday, March 13; and 49 on Saturday, March 14, bringing the total to 322 applicants.

The screening team is led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Ike Nwosu, who has continued to emphasize professionalism, fairness, and transparency in his daily briefings with officers conducting the exercise.

He reiterated that the process aligns with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police to ensure credibility and accountability throughout the recruitment exercise.

While addressing applicants each day, the team leader also relayed the appeal of the Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, urging candidates to remain orderly and cooperate with officials during the screening.

Applicants were also reminded that the screening exercise is completely free of charge. They were encouraged to report any form of extortion or unprofessional conduct to the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) of the Abia State Police Command through the following numbers: 09031593827 and 09035401645.
The screening activities for Saturday, March 14, were successfully concluded, and the exercise is expected to resume on Monday, March 16, 2026.
