SSG Charges Information Ministry Staff to Key into Gov. Otti’s Rebuilding Agenda
The Secretary to the Abia State Government (SSG), Professor Kenneth Kalu, has called on staff of the Ministry of Information to see themselves as pivotal partners in the current administration’s rebuilding agenda, led by Governor Alex Otti, OFR.
Professor Kalu made this charge during a working visit to the Ministry, where he emphasized the vital role of the information officers in promoting government policies, programs, and initiatives aimed at driving Abia’s growth and development.
Describing the ministry’s staff as essential communicators between the government and the people, the SSG urged them to adopt a mindset of collaboration and ownership in executing their responsibilities. He noted that a collective and committed approach would ensure effective, timely, and transparent communication of government efforts to the public.
Earlier in his remarks, the Hon. Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, welcomed the SSG and expressed appreciation for the visit. He reiterated the ministry’s commitment to its core mandate of public enlightenment, adding that the numerous achievements of Governor Otti—especially in improving workers’ welfare—serve as motivation for public servants to remain dedicated.
Prince Kanu highlighted key milestones of the Otti administration, including the prompt and regular payment of salaries, introduction of a formal health insurance scheme for the workforce, and the creation of a more conducive working environment for civil servants.
In a vote of thanks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Sir Chris Onwuegbu, praised Professor Kalu’s leadership style, noting that he is the first SSG to undertake a tour of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). He also commended Governor Alex Otti for his transformative strides across the state and pledged the ministry’s unwavering support for the administration’s vision of a new Abia.
The visit also featured an interactive session with staff of the ministry. The SSG was accompanied by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Due Process and Public Procurement.
