Unfair Blame: IPOB Responds to Criticisms Over Imo State Insecurity

IPOB, the Indigenous People of Biafra, claims that it is being unjustly accused and held responsible for the insecurity that is afflicting Imos State, emphasizing that new intelligence has supported its claims.

Emma Powerful, its Media and Publicity Secretary, made this announcement in a statement.

The gang made reference to a widely shared video in which a person going by the name “Gentle Yahoo” claimed to have been involved in illegal activity in Imo State.

The statement said the individual made allegations about being influenced by certain actors with vested interests.

According to IPOB, the video backs up its repeated claims that it has nothing to do with the region’s insecurity.

“We, the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, once again assert that we are not responsible for the insecurity, kidnappings, or other criminal activities in Imo State.

“The video circulating online, which features a man identifying himself as part of a group previously involved in such activities, suggests attempts were made to implicate IPOB, the Eastern Security Network, ESN, and our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu,” IPOB said.

The group emphasized that it has continuously conveyed through broadcasts and formal declarations that its purpose is nonviolent and focused on promoting self-determination.

Additionally, it advised the public and media to be cautious and carry out in-depth investigations before to assigning responsibility.

“We expect responsible media and public institutions to critically evaluate such claims and avoid hastily labeling IPOB or ESN in matters of regional insecurity,” the statement added.

IPOB urged citizens of Imo State to seek justice and clarity on the persistent insecurity in their areas and called for accountability and transparency in governance.
