2027: Jigawa governor tells PDP lawmakers to prepare exit from NASS
Governor Malam Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has told opposition lawmakers, particularly those from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), to begin preparing to vacate their seats in the National Assembly ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The governor made the declaration on Saturday during a Citizens Engagement Programme tagged “Gwamnati da Jama’a” held in Dutse Local Government Area.
The event also featured the defection of over 3,500 members of the PDP and New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Addressing party supporters, Namadi expressed confidence that the APC would reclaim all political positions currently held by opposition parties, particularly those won in the state during the 2023 general elections.
“The elected members of the National Assembly from the opposition parties should start counting their days in the Red and Green Chambers,” Governor Namadi said. “The people will no longer vote for them; they will vote APC in 2027.”
The governor said the APC’s growing popularity in Jigawa State, especially in the southwestern zone, is a result of his administration’s commitment to human and capital development.
“The All Progressives Congress (APC) is gaining more acceptance in the Jigawa Southwestern zone due to our strong commitment to both human and capital development,” he stated.
He referenced recent mass defections in key local governments within the zone as proof of the party’s dominance.
“With what we are witnessing these days in Birnin Kudu, Buji, and now Dutse, all in this zone there is no doubt the APC is the party the people trust,” the governor declared.
It will be recalled that the PDP had won several strategic positions during the 2023 elections in Jigawa State, including the South-West Senatorial seat, and the House of Representatives seats for Birnin Kudu/Buji and Dutse/Kiyawa federal constituencies, along with a state assembly seat in Birnin Kudu.
Governor Namadi reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering good governance under the APC platform and urged the new defectors to remain loyal to the party.
