INEC expresses confidence as Agboke resumes as Ondo REC

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has expressed optimism over electoral reforms in Ondo State following the deployment of Dr Mutiu Olaleke Agboke as the new Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC.

The Commission, in a statement by INEC Ondo State Administrative Secretary, Tadese Adenike, confirmed that Dr Agboke assumed office on Monday, April 20, 2026.

In a statement obtained by DAILY POST, the Commission highlighted Agboke’s extensive background in election management and legal practice, describing him as a seasoned professional with proven experience.

The Commission also maintained that his taking over as the Ondo REC will mark a fresh phase in INEC’s electoral administration in the state.

The statement revealed that, “Agboke, who hails from Abeokuta in Ogun State, was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2006 and previously served with the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission between 2012 and 2016.

“He has also held similar positions in Ondo, Oyo and Osun states, where he oversaw the conduct of the 2019 and 2023 general elections.”

The Commission stated that his track record of “integrity, transparency and professionalism” would enhance public trust and ensure the delivery of credible, free and fair elections in Ondo State.
