Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has described the defection of prominent businessman and philanthropist, Emeka Charles Kalu, to the Labour Party as a major boost to the party’s rising profile in the state.

The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Ikechukwu Emetu, made the remarks during a well-attended mega rally and official declaration held at the Bende Local Government Headquarters Stadium.

Emetu said Kalu’s decision to join the Labour Party reflects growing public confidence in the administration’s reform-oriented policies and its commitment to people-focused governance.

He described the event as more than a routine political gathering, noting that it symbolized a shared vision for leadership, progress, and sustainable development in Abia State.

Highlighting Kalu’s contributions to society, the deputy governor commended his longstanding involvement in philanthropy, youth empowerment, and grassroots development, stating that such qualities align with the core principles of the Labour Party.

According to him, “Kalu’s entry into the party at this crucial time is both strategic and commendable, as it underscores a collective resolve to place the welfare of the people at the center of governance.”

 

Formally welcoming the new entrant, Emetu expressed optimism that Kalu’s experience and influence would further strengthen the government’s efforts to drive development across the state.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the occasion, Chijioke Nwankwo, linked Kalu’s defection to what he described as the remarkable achievements of the Otti-led administration.

He noted that the government’s performance continues to attract credible and influential figures into the Labour Party.

Nwankwo described the party as one built on a solid foundation, adding that the ongoing transformation in Abia State has been both visible and impactful.

Also speaking, the State Chairman of the Labour Party, Emmanuel Otti, expressed delight over Kalu’s defection, characterizing it as the addition of a valuable member to the party’s fold.

He assured party supporters of sustained growth and consolidation as the party positions itself for future political engagements.

In his acceptance speech, Kalu said his decision to join the Labour Party was driven by a desire to contribute meaningfully to the development of Abia State.

He pledged his full support to Governor Otti’s administration, promising to deploy his resources and experience toward advancing the state’s progress.

The rally attracted a large crowd of party faithful, stakeholders, and supporters from across the state, further highlighting the Labour Party’s expanding influence and political strength in Abia.
