Abure to Obi: I’ll Expose You, others Over LP Crisis

PUO Reports — The National Chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Abure, has issued a direct challenge to the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and other former aspirants, demanding they provide verifiable evidence of any financial contributions made to him personally or to the party during the last general elections.

Speaking during a stakeholder meeting in the Federal Capital Territory, a video of which was broadcast by Symfoni on Tuesday, Abure firmly denied receiving any campaign funds from candidates, including Obi. He declared that no monetary support was transferred to him for personal use, and warned that continued provocation could compel him to make explosive revelations.

“I want to challenge all of them,” Abure stated. “I saw some of them on television talking about corruption. Let any of them from Peter Obi down come forward and publicly declare what they personally gave to me or the party. Who brought the money? Who was it given to? Where was it sent? I challenge them today to come out boldly with or without evidence and say it. Otherwise, let them forever remain silent.”

Abure revealed plans to convene a world press conference to address the series of allegations and internal tensions that have emerged within the Labour Party following the 2023 general elections. According to him, his silence up until now was a deliberate leadership strategy aimed at fostering peace and unity within the party’s ranks.

“As a leader, I kept quiet thinking they were making mistakes and would eventually come around,” he said. “When issues about election agents and funds came up, I said nothing because I believed I should accept the good, the bad, and the ugly within our fold.”

Abure, however, warned that he would not continue to overlook attempts to malign his character or question his integrity. “But now that some have crossed the line, I have no choice. If they provoke me further, I will reveal everything. When I open my mouth, they will stink like rotten eggs no one wants to touch,” he declared.

Turning his criticism toward Governor Alex Otti of abia State, the Labour Party’s sole governor, Abure accused him of failing to provide financial support to the party during the election. He described Otti as a political opportunist who has since distanced himself from the party structure.

“That governor who is jumping like a cricket from one point to another, we did not collect a dime from him,” Abure stated. “If he gave money to anyone, let him come forward and say so. When we met at Transcorp, he asked me, ‘Chairman, what do I do for you?’ I told him, ‘Nothing. Use your money for your campaign.’”

He further claimed that, apart from a few exceptions, most elected representatives of the party made no financial contributions to support its activities during the 2023 elections.

Abure also dismissed all corruption allegations leveled against him and other members of the party’s leadership. He said the executive team resisted multiple attempts to bribe and compromise the integrity of the Labour Party during and after the polls.

“We rejected offers despite the influence of those who made them. But today, those same individuals are leading the campaign to oust us,” he said.

The Labour Party has been embroiled in internal divisions and leadership disputes since the conclusion of the 2023 general elections, with ongoing debates over transparency, accountability, and the role of elected officials within the party’s future direction.
