Adebayo, Al-Makura receive remains of Akwashiki from India

The remains of Senator representing Nasarawa North, Godiya Akwashiki, arrived in Nigeria on Monday from India, where he passed on last week Wednesday.

DAILY POST reports that his remains were received by the acting National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party, Prof. Sadiq Gombe; the former presidential candidate of the party, Adewole Adebayo; the former governor of Nasarawa State, Umaru Al-Makura; the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Solid Minerals, Jonathan Gaza Gbefwi; Labaran Makun, a former minister of information, and other politicians.

Meanwhile, Senate President, Godwill Akpabio, and other Senate leaders were conspicuously absent at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport Cargo Terminal in Abuja.

Speaking, Prof. Gombe said the passing of Senator Akwashiki is a great loss to the nation.

“It is a great loss not only to his constituents but also to the SDP and Nigeria at large,” he said.

When asked why no sitting senator is available to receive the late senator, he said, “You know the senators are in recess.”

“We feel devastated for the family,” he added.

Also Prince Adebayo said, “Many people who know Senator Godiya Akwashiki will know that he is a great man. It is a great loss.

“His loss has a negative impact on the entire state. To us, we do not have many senators, so his death is a great loss.”

DAILY POST recalls that Senator Akwashiki died Wednesday at a hospital in India at 52 years old.
