Abía state government in conjunction with the Federal Housing Authority on 21st April 2026 performed the ground breaking ceremony of a new Housing Estate known as Renewed Hope Housing Estate in Umuahia the Abia State Capital .

Performing the function , the Abia state governor Dr Alex Otti , commended the management of Federal Housing Authority for accepting to collaborate with the state government to construct the new Estate located along Umuahia , Ubani , Uzuakoli road Umuahia . The governor said his government’ is worried at the rising cost of renting a house in Umuahia , hence his decision to attract the federal government to the state capital to put up an affordable and comfortable housing estate in the capital City .
He equally announced that the state government is also coming up with another housing estate at the former site of Civil Service commission to give to the people more affordable accommodations .
In a similar development , the state government say she has concluded plans with the management of Federal Railway Corporation to build a new ultra modern Train
Station adjacent to Umuahia Central Bus Terminal Umuahia .
The Abia State Commissioner for Information Prince Okey Kanu disclosed this while briefing newsmen on Monday the 20th of April 2026 at the government house Umuahia , on the out come of the week’s Executive Council Meeting , said the new train station would among other things boost easy transportation
System within the area , while well planned commercial activities would be introduced to again boost the economy of the State .
He explained that all motor parks operating within Umuahia capital city, would relocate to the central bus terminal while all the traders at
Isi-gate would temporarily be relocated to Okigwe motor park Umuahia from where they would be moved to a more permanent site at Afara Relief market Afara , when fully completed .
Prince Okey Kanu hinted that the perimeter fencing of the relief market have been completed while other necessary amenities are on the way saying the state government have made full payment of compensation to the land Donors .
Prince Kanu, noted that the move is in line with the state government’s urban renewal and decongestion agenda .
Providing updates on transportation and infrastructure , Prince Kanu said the construction of the ultra-modern Umuahia Central Bus Terminal is almost 100 percent completed and ready for commissioning.
He further stated that all supporting infrastructure for the Abia Green Shuttle Bus Service Scheme has been put in place,
which include charging stations, ticketing points, junction improvement works, as well as bus shelters strategically located across the state .
The Commissioner also announced that the Greater Ohafia Development Authority (GODA) has completed several projects awaiting commissioning .
These he said include the 2.4-kilometre Amaumara–Ugbe Road in Isuikwuato LGA, the 1.2-kilometres Okagwe–Ukwebi Road, the 1.2-kilometres Amaekpu Ring Road in Ohafia, as well as the Afiankwo Isiama Daily Market in Ohafia LGA.
