DEPUTY GOVERNOR EMETU HOSTS OUTGOING BRIGADE COMMANDER, 14 BRIGADE OHAFIA, AT COUNTRY HOME

The Deputy Governor of Abia State, His Excellency, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, FNSE, on Thursday, hosted the outgoing Brigade Commander of the Nigerian Army 14 Brigade, Ohafia, Brigadier General HM Bello, at his country home in Ohafia Local Government Area.

The event, which attracted top government officials, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and stakeholders from across Ohafia and beyond, was organised as a send-forth in honour of Brigadier General Bello for his meritorious service and outstanding contributions to peace and security in Abia State during his tenure.

In his welcome address, Deputy Governor Emetu commended the outgoing Brigade Commander for his professionalism, discipline, and people-centred approach to security management, noting that his leadership significantly strengthened civil-military relations and restored lasting peace across Ohafia and neighbouring communities.

“You have become part of us. Your tenure here brought peace, unity and confidence to our people, and we are proud to identify with you wherever duty calls you next,” the Deputy Governor said.

He further assured Brigadier General Bello of the continuous goodwill and prayers of the people of Ohafia, expressing optimism that his redeployment would usher him into higher national responsibilities.

Several goodwill messages were delivered at the event, including those from the Member representing Ohafia South State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Chief Kalu Mba Nwoke (Etiokwe); the Mayor of Ohafia LGA, Hon. Chief Eleanya Ojuu Kalu; the Director General of the Greater Ohafia Development Authority (GODA); Elder Engr Obinna Agwu Odum, the Udumeze of Ohafia/Chairman Ohafia Council of Monarchs, HRP Ezie Elder Awa Orji Udonsi, the Chairman, Ohafia Council of Traditional Rulers, HRH Exe Oscar Kalu Osonwa, and the Moderator, Ohafia Synod of the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, Most Rev Dr Uma Onwunta.

Speakers unanimously praised the outgoing Brigade Commander for ensuring peace, accessibility, and cooperation with civil authorities.

Responding, the outgoing Brigade Commander, Brigadier General HM Bello, expressed deep appreciation to the Abia State Government and the people of Ohafia for their support and hospitality throughout his stay.

“The peace and cooperation I enjoyed in Ohafia made my assignment easier and successful. I leave with fond memories and lasting bonds that I will always cherish,” he stated.

The event also featured remarks by the incoming Brigade Commander, Brigadier General AM Dikko, who assured the people of continuity and improved collaboration with civil authorities and host communities.

“I will do everything humanly possible to ensure that I leave this command better than I met it, building on the strong legacy of my predecessor,” Brigadier General Dikko pledged.

He described the warm reception accorded him as a clear testament to the hospitality and unity of the Ohafia people, promising to prioritise peace, professionalism, and community engagement throughout his tenure.

The gathering concluded with prayers, solidarity messages, and expressions of goodwill, reinforcing Ohafia’s reputation as a peaceful and hospitable community and underscoring Abia State’s commitment to sustaining security through effective civil-military cooperation.
