Stakeholders from Enugu East Senatorial Zone have thrown their full weight behind Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, declaring him the only political “party” they recognize ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The declaration came amid mounting pressure on the governor to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), with insiders confirming that top APC figures have been lobbying him to jump ship before the next general elections.
At a high-powered meeting held on Sunday, political heavyweights from Enugu East unanimously resolved that anyone planning to purchase a governorship form to contest against Mbah in 2027 would be wasting time and money.

Former APC state chairman, Barr. Ben Nwoye, who once appealed for Mbah to join the APC, mocked Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji, describing him as a “sleeping minister” with no place in the Lion Building. Nnaji, APC’s 2023 governorship candidate, is rumored to be nursing another bid in 2027.
Also present was the Labour Party’s 2023 candidate, Barr. Chijioke Edeoga, who dramatically moved a motion declaring Mbah as Enugu East’s sole candidate for the next governorship race. The motion was carried without dissent.
A communiqué issued at the end of the meeting read in part:
“We are blind to party affiliation. Our political party is Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, a performing governor who has shown capacity to transform Enugu State and drive it towards the vision of our founding fathers.”
The leaders further invoked the state’s zoning arrangement, reminding Enugu North and Enugu West of the political understanding that saw them produce governors between 2007 and 2023. According to them, it is now the turn of Enugu East to complete its two terms through Mbah, just as Sullivan Chime (Enugu West) and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu North) did in the past.
They urged both zones to “return the favour” by supporting the incumbent governor’s re-election in 2027.
With this bold declaration, the Enugu East bloc has not only cemented Mbah’s candidacy but also sent a strong message to rivals across party lines—Mbah is the man to beat.
