Ikpeazu Begins Diplomatic Mission in Spain

Nigeria’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Spain, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, has officially commenced his diplomatic mission after presenting copies of his Letters of Credence (Copie d’Usage) to the Spanish Government.

The ceremony took place at the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Madrid, where the Director-General for Protocol, Chancery and Orders, Adrián Martín Couce, received the Nigerian envoy on behalf of the Kingdom of Spain.

The presentation of copies of the Letters of Credence is a longstanding diplomatic tradition that formally notifies the host government of an ambassador’s appointment. It also authorises the ambassador-designate to begin official diplomatic engagements pending the formal presentation of the original Letters of Credence to the Head of State.

Dr. Ikpeazu’s appointment is expected to further strengthen the cordial relations between Nigeria and Spain, with renewed focus on expanding cooperation in trade, investment, education, tourism, culture, renewable energy, and technology.

The former Governor of Abia State is expected to continue official engagements in Madrid ahead of the formal presentation of his Letters of Credence to His Majesty King Felipe VI of Spain, which will mark the full assumption of his duties as Nigeria’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Kingdom of Spain.

His appointment reflects Nigeria’s commitment to deepening bilateral relations with Spain and advancing mutual interests through sustained diplomatic engagement.
