Lawmaker expresses concern over erosion menace in Bende North, seeks government intervention

The erosion menace threatening the Okoko Item, Alayi and Igbere communities in Bende local government area of Abia State is causing the member representing Bende North state Constituency in Abia House of Assembly, Hon Ibekwe Nnamdi sleepless nights following the danger it is currently posing to lives and property of his Constituents.

Speaking with Newsmen after inspecting the extent of devastation by the erosion at Okoko Item, Hon Ibekwe noted with concern that many buildings have been seriously affected with some at the risk of collapsing and being consumed.

While disclosing that Farmlands and roads are not left out in this ugly development, the Legislator, therefore, appealed to the Abia state, Federal, and other relevant government agencies to come to the aid of communities in his constituency being ravaged by gully erosion.

He regretted that this development has disrupted not only the economic and social well-being of the people and that the two monstrous gullies at Okoko- Amaokwe -Nkporo road are threatening inter community transportation and relationships.

Dr. Ibekwe noted that while community consciousness has improved since the commencement of his tenure as a result of the enlightenment campaign by the OziomaChi foundation, there was an urgent need for proactive government intervention.

The Lawmaker who commended the road rehabilitation effort of the Dr Alex Otti administration, urged the government to prioritize erosion control measures at the critical sites in Okoko to prevent further deterioration and disruption to the communities.
