Otti Launches Grassroots Engagements To Assess Policy Impact Across Abia
Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has commenced a series of community engagements as part of efforts to deepen grassroots governance and obtain firsthand feedback on the impact of government policies and programmes across the state.
Speaking at the inauguration of the initiative on Saturday, at Agburuke Community Primary School in Isialangwa North Local Government Area, Governor Otti reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to people-centred governance.
The Governor represented by his Chief of Staff, pastor Caleb Ajagba, described the exercise as a deliberate strategy to promote inclusiveness and strengthen direct interaction between government and the people.
According to him; “This is essentially a community engagement designed to connect directly with the people.
“Our administration has redefined governance in Abia state through a holistic vision and inclusive policies.
“What we are doing is to visit communities, interface with them and evaluate how these policies are impacting their daily lives”, Gov. Otti stated.
The Governor noted that the initiative provides an opportunity for government to move beyond assumptions and obtain authentic grassroots feedback.
He expressed satisfaction with the positive testimonies from residents, who highlighted visible developmental projects and improvements in their communities.
“It is gratifying to hear directly from the people. Their responses are genuine and heartfelt. These are not people you can influence to speak otherwise.
“They have clearly identified projects and confirmed that governance has truly reached the grassroots under this administration”, he added.
Governor Otti, who highlighted ongoing infrastructure projects in the area, including road construction, assured residents that all projects initiated by his administration across the state would be completed within record time.
He also used the occasion to sensitise residents on the importance of obtaining their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the forthcoming registration exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
“There is another window opening from May 4 through August for PVC registration. While it is commendable that people are expressing support for us, it is important that they are fully empowered to exercise their civic rights”, he emphasised.
Earlier, community leaders of Agburike Nsulu, including Jesse Odu, President General of Agburuke Nsulu Development Association; Oji Ikechukwu; and Ngozi Israel, endorsed Governor Otti for a second term in office.
They stated that the community was united in its support for the Governor and expressed readiness to vote for him and candidates of the Labour party in the 2027 general elections.
The leaders commended the Otti led administration’s developmental strides, describing them as both visible and impactful, and noted that the evidence of good governance is everywhere.
They further affirmed their alignment with the Otti-led administration, revealing that many had become card-carrying members of the Labour Party.
The leaders also expressed appreciation for the Governor’s visit, describing it as a demonstration of responsive and accessible governance.
They commended efforts to encourage mass participation in civic processes, including PVC registration and National Identification Number (NIN) enrolment and assured full cooperation from community members.
The Governor’s representative later inspected the dilapidated facilities at Agburuke Community Primary School, which the state government has earmarked for reconstruction.
