Otti Mourns ANPA Doctor Nwaubani, Commends Selfless Sacrifice At Abia Medical Mission

 

Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti, has expressed deep sorrow over the sudden death of Dr Uzoma Nwaubani, a member of the Association of Nigerian Physicians in the Americas (ANPA) medical team participating in the ongoing medical mission in the state.

 

In a condolence message dated April 17, 2026 and personally signed by the Governor, he described the late physician as a “highly treasured” medical expert, whose commitment to humanitarian service stood get out.

 

The Governor noted that the deceased had travelled from the United States alongside her husband and daughter to render free medical services to residents of the state.

 

He further disclosed that Dr Nwaubani developed a medical emergency during the mission and was immediately rushed to hospital, where a combined team of ANPA and local medical professionals worked tirelessly to save her life.

 

“I received with shock, the passing of one of our highly treasured ANPA (Association of Nigerian Physicians in the Americas) medical experts who was part of the ongoing Medical Mission in Abia State, Dr Uzoma Nwaubani, after a brief illness.

 

“She had returned from the United States with her husband; a true son of Abia and her daughter, a final year medical student in the US to offer her medical expertise free of charge to citizens of our dear state, a sacrifice that marks her out as a compassionate and exemplary medical practitioner, alongside other ANPA volunteers.

 

“She developed a medical emergency and was taken to the hospital where a dedicated team of ANPA and local medical experts worked in synergy to provide her with immediate critical care. 

 

“However, despite the gallant efforts of the highly skilled medical team to resuscitate her, she could not make it”, Governor Otti said.

 

The Governor extended condolences to her family and the ANPA community, assuring them of the state government’s support during the difficult period.

 

He also commended the bereaved family and ANPA leadership for allowing the medical mission to continue despite the tragic loss.

 

“I hereby wish to express my deepest sympathy to the family, loved ones as well as commiserate with the Association of Nigerian Physicians in the Americas. Our thoughts and prayers are with her husband and family.

 

“We wish to commend the family of Dr Nwaubani, and ANPA for their brave decision to allow the mission to continue despite this sad loss. 

 

“The government will stand with the family and provide all necessary support to ease their grief at this unfortunate period”, he said.

 

Governor Otti who prayed for the repose of the late Dr Uzoma Nwaubani, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to healthcare delivery and stressed that the welfare of residents remains a top priority.
