Trial of Suspected Coup Plotters : Journalists stopped from covering bail proceedings

The trial of the six persons accused of plotting a coup against President Bola Tinubu’s government continued on Monday (27/4/26) with Journalist directed to leave the court room

In the matter at Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, the presiding Judge was said to have restrained journalists from covering the bail proceedings.

According to reports, Operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS, allegedly ordered reporters to leave the courtroom shortly before the trial judge, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, took her seat.

Following the development, Journalists complied and exited the courtroom though the matter has generated heightened public interest in the trial of the six defendants, who were arraigned last Wednesday by the FG over an alleged failed coup.

The accused include: Mohammed Ibrahim Gana, a retired major-general; Erasmus Victor, a retired navy captain; Ahmed Ibrahim, a police inspector; and Zekeri Umoru, an electrician at the Presidential Villa as well as Bukar Goni and Sani, Zaria-based Islamic clerics.
