Varsity Don urges Tarabans to remain hopeful, participate in electoral process

A University Don, Professor Jerome Nyameh, has urged the people of Taraba State to remain hopeful despite the challenges confronting the state, noting that it possesses vast untapped potential that can drive growth and development.

Professor Nyameh made the call on Thursday while responding to questions from journalists in Jalingo, the state capital.

He said that although the state has experienced ups and downs and varying interpretations of its present situation, there is still hope if its abundant resources are properly harnessed.

Describing his message as one of hope, the academic emphasized that the future of Taraba State lies in the hands of its citizens.

He called on residents, especially eligible voters, to register and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs, stressing that the electoral process remains the most effective means through which citizens can influence the direction, development and quality of leadership in the state.

According to him, merely possessing a voter card is not enough, as citizens must also use it wisely during elections.

Professor Nyameh also charged leaders at all levels to tackle the root causes of insecurity in the country, which he identified as poverty. He said the growing insecurity across the nation reflects gaps in leadership and governance.

He further stressed that job creation is critical to addressing insecurity, noting that gainful employment would significantly reduce social vices.

“When the government creates jobs for the people, many of these problems will not exist. An idle mind is the devil’s workshop,” he said.
