We Want Our State Back – Rivers Women Decry Economic Sabotage

Rivers women across Rivers State, under the platform Rivers Women Unite for Sim (RWUS), have voiced deep concern over the current state of affairs in the state, calling for a return to peace, economic prosperity, and genuine democratic governance.

At their monthly prayer gathering held at the Ecumenical Centre in Port Harcourt, the women — drawn from all 23 local government areas — expressed hope that ongoing reconciliation efforts among political leaders would lead to lasting stability.

“We want our state back — the Rivers State we once knew, thriving in business and in life,” said Comfort Jeremiah, a member of the group. “As mothers and caretakers, we are among the most affected during times of crisis. That’s why we come together weekly to seek divine intervention for our leaders and for peace to reign.”

The prayers, which have become a routine gathering, are aimed at seeking God’s mercy and guidance for the state and its political leadership.

Adding her voice, Adata Bio-Briggs, Esq., former Chairperson of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Rivers State Chapter, emphasized the group’s demand for the restoration of democratic structures and respect for the will of the people.

“We are praying for the restoration of true democracy, where our elected leaders can serve without fear or conflict,” she stated. “Reconciliation must be genuine, and that’s what we are believing God for.”

The group urged leaders at all levels to put the interest of the state above personal ambition, stressing that unity and stability are essential for economic recovery and social progress in Rivers State.
