…. Empowerment, Leadership and Recognition to Take Center Stage as Top Female Voices Gather in Abia

In a bold move to strengthen female inclusion in governance and leadership across Abia State, All Women For Good Leadership Initiative—popularly known as Abia Women for Good Governance—is set to host its inaugural meeting and awards event on July 25, 2025, at the prestigious Abia Hotels and Recreation Center, Umuahia.

The event, themed “Empowering Women for Good Governance,” will kick off by 11:00 am and promises to be a groundbreaking gathering of women from all sectors, dedicated to promoting transparency, accountability, and inclusion in Abia’s governance structure.

At the helm of the initiative is Mrs. Ifeoma Nwachukwu, M.Ed (Ph.D), a passionate advocate for women’s leadership and development. Speaking ahead of the event, Mrs. Nwachukwu stated that the gathering would be “interesting, interactive, and empowering for all invited guests.” She also called on development partners and stakeholders to join hands with the group to amplify the voices of women in governance.

Gracing the event as Special Guest of Honour is the Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr. Maureen Aghukwa, a known voice for women empowerment in the state. The Guest Speaker, Professor Chioma Nwakanma, who heads the Department of Environmental Management and Toxicology at Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike (MOUAU), will deliver a keynote address expected to spark critical conversations on the role of women in sustainable governance.

The event will also feature an awards segment recognizing outstanding Abia women who have demonstrated integrity, excellence, and leadership in both public and private sectors.

The gathering will serve as a rallying point for women-led movements, NGOs, community leaders, and political actors interested in promoting effective governance through female participation.

As anticipation grows, the convener has urged all invited guests and well-meaning supporters of women’s rights and leadership to attend the event and partner with the initiative to build a more inclusive Abia.
