Abia Govt Assures Umunwanwa Community of Continued Support in Education

The Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Emmanuel Meribole, has assured the people of Umunwanwa of the Abia State Government’s continued support, especially in education and other important sectors.

Dr. Meribole gave the assurance when he received members of the Ihenwekala Development Union, Umuahia Branch, who paid him a courtesy visit in his office. He described the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, as a visionary leader and said the community has recorded steady progress since the governor’s visit to the area last year.

He said the present administration is committed to improving the welfare of citizens through investments in education, infrastructure, and other key areas. According to him, government policies are aimed at creating opportunities and ensuring that communities like Umunwanwa benefit from ongoing development.

Speaking further, the SSG explained that the government has taken steps to strengthen the education sector. He said more teachers have been employed to improve learning in public schools, including the recent recruitment of about 4,000 teachers across the state. He noted that this is to reduce teacher shortages and improve the quality of education.

Dr. Meribole assured the delegation that their request for more teachers in their community would be sent to the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education for attention. He added that the government is ready to respond to genuine needs that will improve learning in schools.

He also encouraged residents to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and take part in future elections. He said civic participation is important for democracy and helps ensure that leaders remain accountable to the people.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Ihenwekala Development Union, Umuahia Branch, Mr. Eze Nwosu, said the visit was to thank the governor for appointing Dr. Meribole as SSG. He described the appointment as well-deserved and said the SSG has shown commitment in his duties.

Mr. Nwosu also praised the government’s efforts in education and other sectors but appealed for more teachers to be posted to primary and secondary schools in the community. He said this would help reduce staff shortages and improve the quality of education for children.

He assured the government of the community’s continued support for programmes aimed at developing the state.

The visit ended with a mutual understanding between both sides to continue working together for the development of the state.
