Abia GOVT TO GO DIGITAL ON HEALTH AND TRANSPORTATION

Abia state government is to introduce several digitalized innovations in the health and transport sectors of the State .

The Commissioner for Information Prince Okey Kanu stated this penultimate Tuesday while briefing the press on the out come of the week’s Executive Council meeting which held at the government house Umuahia .

. On the Electric buses also known as Abia state green shuttle which started operation on the 22nd of December 2025 , the Commissioner said so far 14 buses were deployed on the road. From start of operation in December to January 29th, a total of 206,116 persons have been transported to various places of destination within the state while a distance of 74, 796.6km have been covered within the stated period .He said the people have been enjoying free ride of the buses and free ride he said would stop at the end of the month of February . The management of the the green shuttle buses would commence collection of money through E_ticketing for payment of a stated amount depending on the distance or the are a passenger is going to .The modus operandi of boarding the buses would be by staying on a queque.

Similarly in the health sector , the Executive Council took far reaching decisions on operation of health treatment in the state . Prince Kanu said the new decisions were taken to make health not just affordable but reachable to all.
The first is the E_health Program under this initiatives Doctors could be consulted through phone to give guide to another Doctor handling a patient under emergency. He disclosed that there is going to be provision of well equipped ambulances for fast conveying of an emergency case to hospital According to the commissioner ,most operation of the ministry of health in relation to hospital are going to be digitalized

. The Council approved the establishment of 2 Tele _Care centres in the state , one is located at Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike MOUAU and the other at Alayi in Bende LGA . Under this arrangement , experts on a particular area could be reached on phone for professional advice.The Commissioner said these moves were made to give every one easy and fast access to good health .

Prince Okey Kanu also noted that the Council have approved the establishment of an SME village in Aba . He stated that the village will house small and medium scale businesses such as phone repairers and phone dealers including lap tops and other small scale business Enterprises . Abia state is to revisit the Abía State One Stop Export Growth Lab and Trade Support Facility located at Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic Aba. This he said is to fine tune trade and commerce in Aba and by extension other parts of the state .
