Governance, the world over, demands accountability. In a State Government, for instance, accountability lies squarely on whoever that is at the helm of its affairs. In this case, it is the Governor of the State.

Any Governor that knows his onions, and is worth his salt, does not shift responsibilities. He takes responsibility for the ‘highs and lows’ of his Administration. It is sheer irresponsibility for any Head of Government to resort to blame games in the face of failure. It is defeatist.

For a Governor to be free as to be accountable, he should be allowed to lay a solid foundation for his Administration, based on his choice of his team, including his Running Mate, and Director-General of his Campaign Council.

If a Governorship Candidate is coerced and intimidated to have a Running Mate that is not of his choice and desire, a man or woman he believes is, by every calculation, incompatible with his personality, those forcing that Running Mate on him are not sincere, they are selfish, and are only interested in laying the foundation for the failure of the Governorship Candidate, only for them to have a reason to disparage later.

In the same destructive vein, if the Powers that be in a Political Party are hell bent on imposing someone who is not the wish of the Governorship Candidate of the Party as the Director-General of his Campaign Council, it would be a simple clear evidence that those Powers that be are not, in any way interested in the electoral success of the Governorship Candidate of their Party. They merely want to plant a Director-General, a stooge of theirs, through whom they will corner all the money that will be released to the Party for election while the Governorship Candidate will be left with nothing.

Such Powers that are Merchants of Misfortune, and are purely selfishly transitional in their horrific political adventure. They can be as unpredictable and unreliable as Mercenaries in a war front.

Equity Global Reporters Ltd calls on all Leaders of Political Parties in Nigeria to allow their Governorship Candidates the discretion of choosing both their Running Mates, and the Directors-General of their Campaign Councils. They are wearing the shoe, they know where it pinches!

In the considered opinion of Equity Global Reporters Ltd, any thing short of the two above, amounts to greed and a clear manifestation of a hidden agenda to make sure the Governorship Candidate fails in the election.

A stitch in time, saves nine!
