NDDC Introduces Online Bidding System for Contractors

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has asked all contractors to start using its new online procurement platform. This move is aimed at reducing delays, favoritism, and corruption linked to manual processes.

The new policy was announced during a procurement reform and digital training workshop held in Imo State. Similar workshops have already taken place in Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River States.

Speaking at the event, the NDDC Director of Procurement, Dr. Chuks Osuji, said the new system will improve how work is done, remove delays, and make the process more open and accountable. He explained that the old manual system was slow and open to corruption.

Osuji also praised the NDDC Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, for leading the move from manual to digital operations across the Niger Delta.

The Director of the NDDC Imo State Office, Mr. Patrick Obayelu, said the Commission is following the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for all government agencies to switch from manual to digital systems. He added that the change is not just about using new technology, but also about improving transparency, reducing human interference, and getting better value for money.

Obayelu noted that procurement is very important in public service because it affects whether roads are built, schools are equipped, healthcare services work properly, and communities benefit.

Dr. Kyrian Uchegbu, the Imo State representative on the NDDC Board, said the Commission is aligning with global best practices. He explained that digital systems help reduce delays, lower corruption risks, and make the process more open and competitive, while also keeping proper records.

The Head of Procurement and Audit at the Imo State Bureau of Public Procurement praised the NDDC for going digital, describing it as a good step forward.

Osuji encouraged contractors, consultants, and service providers to use the platform, saying it will improve accountability and promote better practices. He also mentioned that the system includes a feedback option for users.

The training workshop, themed “Promoting Best Procurement Practices and Digital System for the NDDC,” will continue in other Niger Delta states.
