2027: Abia Monarchs Launch Grassroots Sensitisation For PVC Registration, Participation
The Abia State Council of Traditional Rulers has commenced a statewide sensitisation and mobilisation tour across local government areas to encourage voter registration and participation ahead of the 2027 general elections, beginning with Ikwuano and Umuahia North LGAs.
The exercise brought together principal officers of the Council, traditional rulers from across the 17 LGAs, Presidents-General of town unions, youth and women leaders, as well as other critical stakeholders at the grassroots.
Speaking during separate engagements at Isiala Oboro in Ikwuano LGA and the Umuahia North Council Headquarters on Thursday, the Chairman of the Council, Eze Dr Linus Nto Mbah, urged eligible voters to register and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), stressing that meaningful participation in the electoral process depends on it.
Eze Nto Mbah, emphasised that electoral support without a voter card is ineffective and called on traditional rulers to spearhead mobilisation efforts within their communities.
The Monarch noted that the sensitization campaign had become imperative as the 2027 elections draw closer, urging residents of the state to increase their presence in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) register.
Eze Nto Mbah, while highlighting what he described as the achievements of Governor Alex Otti across key sectors such as healthcare, education and infrastructure, called for sustained support for the Governor’s re-election bid.
“We have considered all that His Excellency, Governor Alex Otti OFR has done in the last 35 months and, we are still wondering what his so-called opposition would be campaigning with.
“What would they tell Abia people that Otti has not done and what would they do that would surpass what Governor Otti is doing currently?”, he queried.
Also speaking, the Third Deputy Chairman of the Council, Eze Uwakwe Ukaegbu, underscored the importance of the PVC, noting that it remains the only legitimate means of validating political support.
He added that the Governor’s performance has positioned him favourably for a second term, arguing that others who performed less had been re-elected in the past.
Responding on behalf of traditional rulers in Ikwuano, King Larry Agwu expressed appreciation for the visit and pledged to cascade the message to the grassroots.
He maintained that Governor Otti’s performance distinguishes him among elected officials in the state and urged residents to obtain their PVCs and participate actively in the electoral process.
Speaking on behalf of Presidents-General, Ohambele Ifeanyi commended the Council for the initiative and assured that the sensitization message would be effectively communicated at the community level.
In Umuahia North, the Chairman of the Traditional Rulers Council, Eze Innocent Nwaigwe, lauded the delegation for the outreach and acknowledged what he described as the Governor’s achievements in office.
He pledged the support of traditional rulers in the area towards mobilising residents for voter registration and participation in the forthcoming elections.
Other stakeholders, including youth leader Emmanuel Ibegbulam, also assured of their commitment to ensuring that eligible citizens not only register for their PVCs but also turn out to vote in 2027.
